Coach Shannon Center

Coach Shannon Center is an Assistant Coach for the Fastpitch Softball team at Hillgrove High School. In addition to this, he is also the Head Coach of the Girls Soccer Program and Varsity Girls Soccer Team.

Prior to accepting the position at Hillgrove, Coach Center had spent 8 years as an Assistant Coach with Wheeler High School’s Fastpitch Team and 10 years with the Wheeler Women’s Soccer Program.

Coach Center teaches the Pre-Engineering / Pre-Architecture program at Hillgrove High School.

Before moving to Marietta from Upstate New York, Coach Center attended Oswego State University and SUNY Adirondack where he played soccer and obtained degrees in Engineering Science, Mechanical Technology and Vocational / Technical Education with minors in Architecture, Athletic Coaching and Sports Medicine. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Administration and a Specialists Degree in Administration / Leadership, both from Jacksonville State University


Coach Leigh Steed

Coach Leigh Steed is in her 22nd year of education. She is a native of Cobb County, graduated from McEachern High School in 1983, and completed her BS in Health and Physical Education at Kennesaw State University in 1988. During high school, Leigh was a 3 sport athlete, playing softball, basketball, and volleyball. While in college, she played a year of college basketball at Shorter College and 3 years of slow pitch softball at KSU. Leigh married Richard Steed and began her career as a teacher at Campbell High School in 1989. She then taught at Tapp Middle School from August 1989 to June 1996, and began her coaching career at McEachern High School, coaching basketball and volleyball from 1990-1993.

After taking a few years off to have her children, Maisie and Kendall, she found her way back, coaching the feeder basketball program for McEachern . She then joined the coaching staff at MHS as a varsity assistant coach for both the slow pitch softball and lacrosse teams. When Hillgrove High School opened in 2006, Coach Steed began coaching women’s lacrosse as varsity assistant, and basketball in Hillgrove’s feeder program.

In 2007-2008, in addition to lacrosse and basketball, she became an assistant coach for slow pitch softball at Hillgove. From 2008-2010, Coach Steed continued to coach lacrosse and added Lady Hawks basketball varsity assistant coach to her resume.

Outside of the Cobb County School District, she has coached several years as a head coach for the West Cobb Girls Softball Program. As softball in the state of Georgia was transitioning from slow pitch to fast pitch, she began coaching travel fast pitch softball. Since 2006, Coach Steed has been with several highly competitive fast pitch programs: West Cobb Sting, Kennworth Bandits, Georgia Impact and her current team, the Atlanta Vipers 16U .


Coach Laura Voyles

Coach Laura Voyles is an Assistant Coach for Fastpitch Softball at Hillgrove High School.

She is a native of Cobb County where she graduated from McEachern High School in 2006. Coach Voyles attended North Georgia College and State University where she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education in 2010. She was a four-year letter winner for the North Georgia softball program, leading the team to Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2009 and 2010, while leading the Saints to back-to-back Division II World Series appearances. She was named First-Team All-Conference and Third-Team All-American in 2008, while earning All-Conference and All-Region honors in 2010. She was a Peach Belt Conference Honor Roll recipient and named to the 2009 College World Series All-Tournament Team.

Prior to coming to Hillgrove High School, Coach Voyles was the Graduate Assistant Softball Coach at North Georgia College and State University where she helped lead the program to its third straight Division II college World Series appearances.

Coach Voyles currently teaches in the Physical Education Department.
